Created in 1946 the Social Service of Commerce, SESC, a private and non-profit institution, has as its objective the promotion of social well-being, the cultural development and the improvement of the quality of life of workers, of their families and of the general community in Brazil.

There are over 200 SESC units in the whole country; the buildings unite theaters, auditoriums, areas for exercise, etc. The network of SESCs in São Paulo are used by 1,2 million people each month. The institution is one of Brazil’s more important supporters of the arts and culture.
