Directory of Kansas radio stations with world music programming.
KMUW-FM, Wichita KS (www.kmuw.org)
KMUW is home to the eclectic world music show, Global Village. The nightly program ranges from classic recordings to new releases, and combines “world music” selections with music from artists in jazz, rock, folk and other genres who have strong world and roots connections. Each month, the program also focuses on a particular artist, style or theme, going deeper into the music with rare and seldom heard recordings.
The program is produced by veteran radio host and writer Chris Heim, whose credits include Passport, a world music program that aired for two decades in Chicago, and regular contributions to a variety of publications including Dirty Linen and Global Rhythm.
KMUW also broadcasts the Global Village Top 30, a monthly program highlighting world music new releases, and such syndicated shows as Afropop Worldwide, Thistle and Shamrock, Putumayo World Music Hour, Sounds Eclectic and World Café.
Global Village airs Monday through Friday at 9 p.m. on KMUW and several times a day on the KMUW-HD2 music channel (Mondays through Thursdays at midnight, 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Fridays at 5 p.m.) The Global Village Top 30, part of world music Fridays on KMUW-HD2 airs at noon and 8 p.m. Both KMUW and KMUW HD2 stream online at www.kmuw.org, where program playlists, the Global Village Top 30 list and feature information is also posted.
