alula_records

Alula Records is a world music label that was created by Japanese musician Akira Satake and world music producer and writer Angel Romero. The label was originally based in Durham, North Carolina.

Alula Records originally produced its own recordings and also licensed world music recordings from Europe for release in North America. In addition to marketing its own releases, Alula Records handled North American publicity for German label Intuition Music until 2002.

Under Akira Satake's and Angel Romero's tenure, the label won three AFIM indie awards for: best cover design, best contemporary world music album and best contemporary folk album.

In 2002 Alula Records was sold to Allegro Corporation and it was relocated to Allegro's headquarters in Portland, Oregon.
